Healthy eating should be a top priority for everyone, whether they’re on a health kick or not. Your body is your temple and should be treated as such, and with the internet proving to be a fabulous resource for recipes and nutritional advice you have little to no excuse when it comes to finding out what you should and shouldn’t be putting in your body.

Rice bran is currently being tipped as being the next big superfood so if you are keen to make a few dietary changes this might be a good place to start. But what is it? Quite simply, it’s just the outer covering you’ll find on a grain of rice, but it’s usually removed during processing and used as animal feed instead.

But researchers at Colorado State University are now suggesting that rice bran could actually be incredibly good for you because it’s very high in vitamins B6, niacin and thiamine, which can help boost cardiovascular health, energy production and also ward off depression.

“It has not been used much in human health and nutrition because it is considered an animal feed, but its high nutritional value warrants greater public health attention,” author of the study professor Elizabeth Ryan was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying.

You can also buy rice bran in oil form and use it in your cooking as an easy way of increasing your intake of these healthy B vitamins. It’s considered to be a healthy source of fat as well because it’s higher in saturated and monounsaturated fats, and lower in polyunsaturates.
