“Manuka Honey is in my top five products to take over the cold winter months. It has strong anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-microbial activity. It is something that I prescribe particularly to help shorten the length and severity of a cold or flu and to help heal cold sores. I find it especially beneficial too if you are ever suffering from painful or recurrent mouth ulcers.
Manuka Honey comes from the flowers of the healing Manuka Bush which is a native of New Zealand. It is, in my opinion, one of nature’s best natural healers. It is important to note that research has shown Manuka Honey to help fight treatment-resistant bacteria, particularly those that infect wounds and the respiratory system. It is a great wound healer and is even used by hospitals to treat leg ulcers and some burns. Many people also report success in treating skin conditions, fungal infections, sore throats, heartburn and stomach upsets.
Some of my clients like to use it as a face mask – the potent anti-inflammatory properties make it useful to help reduce redness and to help alleviate the symptoms of irritated or dry skin areas. The natural healing properties of Manuka Honey are well documented and often you may find that you experience symptomatic relief in a short period of time. The daily dose is one to two teaspoons per day but you can go up to four or so teaspoons if your condition is acute or severe. I find that this may be the case if you are suffering from, for example about of painful mouth ulcers.
A word of caution here though, make sure the Manuka Honey you are using is the real deal and for best therapeutic results use one that has a high rating. There is some Manuka on the market that is not all that it is made out to be. I don’t want you to waste your money on something that is not the real deal.
The honey harvested from the flowers of the Manuka Bush contains a unique component called Methylglyoxal or MGO. I don’t want to get too technical, but the presence of MGO is what makes Manuka Honey so special and is what sets it apart from all other honeys.
The premium quality manuka honey i recommend is Watson & Son. It is pure and genuine and comes to the UK direct from New Zealand. This honey is rated using a rating scale known as the Molan Gold Standard developed by Professor Peter Molan of the University of Waikato.
Each and every batch of Watson & Son Manuka Honey is tested for its Methylglyoxal content by a certified laboratory it is then given an MGS rating indicates the level of Methylglyoxal present. The MGS ratings range from 80 to over 800, essentially the higher the rating the stronger the healing properties of the Manuka Honey.
Remember, quality rated Manuka Honey is important as it ensures purity and quality”.
